/Han, Sammi, Lynnette and Monica in Jerusalem
What years did you attend AYF?
1977-81
Did you go to Waterton? If so, what years or how many years did you go?
Yes, I did but I can’t remember which years from 1978-81.
What year did you graduate? And from where?
High School was good ole Outlook High 1980, Columbia Bible Institute 1983, University of Calgary undergrad in 1989 and graduate degree in 1992.
We would love to have a brief history of your post high school until now (hobbies, occupation, kids, where you’ve lived). Has anyone won a gold medal? We would love to reconnect and catch up with each other lives.
Ah, well the only question is how long do we have to ramble on! I spent my first year after high school working to pay off my first car. Then I went to Columbia Bible Institute in BC where I got introduced to the glorious West Coast. It was there that I got a thoughtful and cerebral education about what it was to be a man of faith anchored in the Bible. After that, I took off to Taiwan, where I grew up as a kid, to work in a volunteer capacity in a hospital. After those fabulous years immersed in Taiwanese society, food and culture, I came back to the culture shock of University of Calgary. The big city and the anonymity of a BIG university took some getting used to but I met Lynnette there. We got married between my first and second years of medical school. Our twins, Sammi and Monica were born during my Family Medicine residency. We have been in Calgary ever since where Monica eventually completed Nursing school and married her husband James. Sammi is nearing the end of her second degree, preparing for a life of teaching. Meanwhile, Lynnette and I have done lots of travelling, both overseas and in our local Rocky Mountains where we like to hike A LOT. I have meanwhile tuned up my singing chops with some time in the Calgary Opera Chorus backing up Ben Heppner for one fantastic opera, Moby Dick! I also spend as much time as I can on one of my several bicycles, enjoying the local mountain bike single track and road cycling events like the Ride to Conquer Cancer and the Grand Fondo Badlands.
